Donald Trump refuses to concede. He refuses to accept the results. He supports conspiracy theories and constantly is spreading misinformation. He is trying to destroy our democracy, and we all need to speak up.
First and foremost, today is Transgender Day of Remembrance, a day to honor and remember those transgender people lost to anti transgender hate and violence.
“Transgender Day of Remembrance seeks to highlight the losses we face due to anti-transgender bigotry and violence. I am no stranger to the need to fight for our rights, and the right to simply exist is first and foremost. With so many seeking to erase transgender people — sometimes in the most brutal ways possible — it is vitally important that those we lose are remembered, and that we continue to fight for justice.”Transgender Day of Remembrance founder Gwendolyn Ann Smith quoted on the GLAAD TDOR website.
We see you. We hear you. We will fight with you.
I have honestly been avoiding posting about this issue. I don’t want to bring attention to President Trump’s antics. Attention feeds him, and it adds to spreading the misinformation he continues to spread. For this reason, this will be a quick post, and I want to focus on what we need to do. It is simple: we need to loudly stand up for the truth.
We need to call and email our senators, our congress people, our state representatives, and our state senators. We need to pressure them into doing the right thing. They can’t stay silent. They have to hold the current administration accountable. Our election, as stated by those in President Trump’s Homeland Security, was one of the most secure elections ever. CISA director Christopher Krebs was fired for confirming the security of this election. It is actions like these that are unacceptable, and they undermine our democracy. Don’t let your representatives let them get away with it.
We need to stay loud. This is as true for our elected officials as it is for us at our virtual Thanksgivings. Don’t let people share sources that are proven to spread disinformation. Don’t let them do it on Twitter or in real life. Don’t let your friends talk about it like these lawsuits mean anything. Don’t let your uncle dismiss you and claim that this is just like what the democrats did in 2016. This isn’t 2016. This isn’t even CLOSE to 2000. This is 2020. Oh, and Hilary Clinton conceded.
I know how hard this is. It is fine line that I have drawn for myself. I don’t want to give Trump attention, but I also do not want to see more fake stories and conspiracy theories get passed around like they are factual. They aren’t.
The facts are that Donald Trump lost as an incumbent president by a challenger who got the most votes ever in American election history. Joe Biden is the president elect. Kamala Harris is going to be the first woman, first black woman, and first south Asian woman Vice President of the United States of America. We must focus on the truth. It will eventually set us free.
But while I may be the first woman in this office, I will not be the last, because every little girl watching tonight sees that this is a country of possibilities. And to the children of our country, regardless of your gender, our country has sent you a clear message: Dream with ambition, lead with conviction, and see yourselves in a way that others may not, simply because they’ve never seen it before, but know that we will applaud you every step of the way.Vice President Elect Kamala Harris
I encourage you to focus on these and all sources that are working to cover this in a respectful and accurate way. We need to read them critically, but remember, our media is never our enemy.
